I am so happy you came here to have this conversation. This question often comes up when folks on the margins address anti-Black racism and white supremacy. White folks who find themselves inside these conversations wonder about how poor they were growing up. When white folks are learning about race and anti-Black racism they often reflect on the socio-econonomic struggles their families had and may still have. "I grew up in a trailer park," some say, "is THAT privilege?" "I know a Black family who drove a BMW... they had more money then we did..." Below I have outlined if you have privilege as a white person even though you grew up poor.
Q: Are you white?
A: YES! YES YOU HAVE WHITE PRIVILEGE PLEASE STOP FINDING WAYS TO ESCAPE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY IN TEARING DOWN ANTI-BLACK RACISM IN THIS WORLD.
